What’s in a name?

That question became important on a creek-side walking trail last week. Up ahead of me, I noticed  a young mother pushing an elevated baby carriage. Because this scene had caught my attention, I stopped her and asked if it would be all right to snap a quick photo from behind —so no recognizable faces—for a possible, future blog post. “Sure, she said.  What’s the name of your blog?”  She didn’t follow up with  “What’s ‘Pat’s blog’ about?”  But if she had, I wouldn’t have been able to tell her in 30 words or less.  Which got my own wheel’s spinning.

Eleven months ago, I began writing “Pat’s Blog” to share the many wondrous things I observe. In the nearly year since, my wonder- and wander-land changed dramatically. So has my reason for writing a blog, and I want a name that describes what that’s about.

After much self- and internet-searching, I discovered what my blog title had to be: open2change. It describes me. Where I am in my life. Things I wonder about in the Now.

Can we, can I  go back to normal? What is normal?

What changes will I be able to accept as opportunities?

I’m eager to hear where you are open to change.

Bravo, Pat!!! The PERFECT name for your blog! It perfectly describes you…of all my friends, you have demonstrated your openness to change in the very way you have lived your life. I think what terrifies so many is the fear of the unknown. But it seems to me that when we grow and evolve as a person…it doesn’t happen during times of status quo…when we are comfortable…it happens when we hit the speed bumps along the way. As if the Universe is giving us a little nudge to “get on with it!” To share my favorite John Lennon quote ” Life is what happens while we’re making other plans.”

Pat: What a wonderful insight! We are all in transition and, thanks to God’s grace, we are moving more to become who He has chosen us to be. We are created in His image and likeness. This is not just a statement of fact but, more importantly, showing by our attitudes, thoughts and actions that we are more loving, compassionate and merciful as He is; it is our unique vocation. With aging and various health problems I have found myself transitioning to a new lifestyle of limitations and vulnerabilities. This is an answer to having said the Suscipe Prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola that asks God to take me more and more into His hands. Jack

change is a daily occurrence in my life, I expect the unexpectant. I have learned that God puts enough new experiences in my life to keep me from remembering that I am getting old and I really should be settling down. He reminds me daily about the beauty of His world from the geese that blocked my car when I was trying to put groceries in last week and I had to resort to opening a bag of bread and giving it to them before they would leave, and I realized that God was telling them that they were HIs creation and they were hungry and I had food to feed them. To, a friend who was down in the dumps and I was cleaning out my curio cabinet and had excess angels that I gave her which brightened her day. I know God played His hand in that as well. My life changes as fast as the Ne. weather. My grandson was in a rather severe Auto Accident and totaled his car. He tried to call me to let him know, but I happened to be reading at Mass at the time and giving out Eucharist, and my prayer was for the safety of my family, and he wasn’t badly hurt, God’s answer to an unexpected event in my life, what better place for me to be but at
Church giving out Eucharist. Yes, Pat, my life is always in flux, and I am grateful to God for it.
