An idea worth spreading?

Yesterday marked the  sixth anniversary of the day the remarkable man I fell madly in love with at the age of 23 left our family for the One and Only in the Great Beyond.

The anniversary day was intended to be— like every day created by the Maker for us—a day to be glad about and take joy in.

So I sent an email to our five children, inviting each to share a favorite memory of their father.  With instructions to reply-to-all.

They responded immediately.  Most, but not all, of the initial memories recalled sporting “events.” From badminton to tennis, baseball to ping-pong.  And walking on hands.

Each responding email has been followed subsequently by online repartee, rebounding retorts and forgotten-till-now recollections.

This back-and-forth for all to see extended into the evening and then continued today.  More than 24 hours of  lumps-in-the throat and laughter. Rejoycing resulting from remembering and re-telling.

Next time, just for the fun of it, I think I’ll add grandkids to the roster of players.

I can only imagine some of the possibly irreverent “repartee” lovingly aimed at their Dad

He was a good man, Pat. All members of the Schudy Family were exceptional people.
