My last post ended with a goal that motivates most, if not all, of us these days.
Stayin’ Alive.
That priority had become a bit more intense a few days ago when a college friend of my oldest grandson tested positive for Covil-19. Unwelcome news that interrupted my grandson’s plan to move into a near-campus apartment this week. This week. Before this year’s academic year gets underway.
To be ASAP — As Safe As Possible— last Friday he masked up and came home. To the multigenerational household I live in. He drove in with many of his earthly possessions, the ones necessary for college life, piled high in his car and parked for the time being in the driveway.
With him came, willingly, self-imposed safety measures for all of us. Even more hand-washing, social distancing and indoor masks. The open-air deck on the back of the house quickly became a a favorite hangout.
This morning, Big News. He and his intended housemates got the results of the COVID-19 tests they’d all taken late last week. Drumroll, please. Everyone’s tests—all of them— came back negative. Big Relief. Huzzahs! It’s once again okay to feel the joy that comes from giving and receiving a hug—with heads looking in opposite directions, of course.
So today my grandson is packing up and movin’ on up. To the north side of where we live. To whatever is the new normal for the university he attends. Including limited choices of online and/or in-person classes, some of them requirements.
New normal challenges.
Keepin’ dreams alive.
